As we delve into the games that are sweeping the world of internet gaming, one of those is the original: PUBG a downloadable game that was once a mod. The game’s quality is an issue, though. Can you play it for free? Do consumers find it enjoyable? And importantly, is able to be enjoyed on different platforms? I think it’s important to start at the beginning.
In The Beginning…
12 September 2017. On that day, even though PUBG was still in early access, I purchased it. I have watched some of my buddies play and every streamer that has ever done it. I reasoned, “Why not?” It cost $30, which is not cheap but also not outrageous. I had heard that the developer was quite involved in the process of development.
Thus, I joined in. Initially, it was enjoyable. Being my first FPS on PC, I learned how to play using a keyboard and mouse while playing squads with a bunch of pals. Of course, there were glitches and hackers, but that’s to be expected in an early access game. All appeared well. There were incoming updates. It was profitable. The future of the game was anticipated by everyone in the world.
Same As It Ever Was
Now, more than a year later, fast forwards to today. Still, there are issues. Lots of issues. Not that the game isn’t updated regularly. Even now, they continuously push updates while undertaking twice-weekly server maintenance. Just a possible conflict of interest? It appears that the developers are really concerned about money. Additionally, they are concerned about being relevant in the sea of battle royale games that are releasing.
The issue is that they aren’t actually making a difference. Rather than improving what they already have, the corporation seems to be more focused on creating new skins, maps, and weapons. Every performance update fixes two or three more issues while fixing one. One upgrade, for instance, prevented my friends and I from even starting a match.
So, is PUBG cross-platform capable or not?
Short answer, yes with a but. Available on PlayStation, Xbox as well as PC and Mobile you can play with others successfully on these platforms. However, cross-play with those using consoles and PC will find it does not support this medium, this is because the game’s PC and console versions are thought to be fundamentally distinct from one another and are hosted on different servers. Even their update cycles are different.
Frustrated!
There will be times when everything is great, and you have a wonderful time. Then there will be times when you are fired at from behind or where you lose bouts that you definitely ought to have won. You can’t even watch a playback and clearly observe what happened because the replay system is still that sluggish. In all honesty, it’s unclear at the beginning of the game if the server will have your back or not. You will lose a lot of firefights if it doesn’t. You succeed in those if it does. It frequently occurs, despite the fact that it seems ridiculous.
In Conclusion…
Even with all the problems and my frustration, I have played the game for more than 200 hours. Why? because it’s enjoyable. If it works, the game is entertaining. The issue is that if you advocate for it to be included in eSports competitions, then everyone will witness two players surviving an explosive that detonated at their feet.
It’s a debate. People will claim that it is your PC if you post about it. All I can say is that I’ve played the game long enough to understand that it’s not my computer. I don’t want to play a game if I can’t play it on a GTX 1080.
